Sundar Pichai wears the latest Google Smartwatch; Picture got viraled

After smartphones, flaunting smartwatches is the new mode of consumerism, irrespective of their actual usefulness. Now, unlike Apple Watch, there are a number of different OEMs who make Android-based or WearOS-powered smartwatches which are primarily meant for Android phones. And of course, there are smartwatches from Samsung as well powered by Tizen OS which works seamlessly with Android phones. But when it comes to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, a natural question that arises is which smartwatch does he wear?

At the annual developers conference I/O 2019, CEO Sundar Pichai was spotted wearing a smartwatch while he was presenting the keynote session which very few in the audience noticed. Soon, popular YouTuber MKBHD asked Twitterati to identify the smartwatch model that Pichai was wearing during the keynote. And with MKBHD’s tweet, it was soon revealed that Pichai was actually wearing a smartwatch made by Fossil. To be precise, Pichai was wearing the Fossil Sport (43mm) with a Black Silicone band. This was confirmed by Fossil themselves through its official Twitter handle.

The Fossil Sport (43mm) is currently selling at $199 in the US (which translates to Rs 14,000 in India). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor and comes with heart rate tracking along with other features.

It is not surprising at all for Pichai to wear a Fossil smartwatch. This is because Google had earlier bought intellectual property that deals with the smartwatch technology from Fossil. For this, the search giant had paid $40 million. The deal also included some part of the Fossil R&D team joining Google that is said to bring a “new product innovation that’s not yet hit the market,” according to Greg McKelvey, EVP and chief strategy and digital officer, Fossil Group. Although McKelvey didn’t reveal the specifics on what the ‘secret’ smartwatch technology is, he did mention that the tech is “based on something out of our timeline and is new to the market”
